RecruitTalk Platform UX/UI
Unbridled natural talent is amazing to watch, but sometimes, that wild talent is hard to manage. Instead of looking for who ran the most yards or had the most hits, recruiters are looking for coachable athletes with consistent growth over time. That’s the concept behind RecruitTalk. Think of it as a LinkedIn for high schoolers to build their very own sports resume.
I was brought in to help with branding and UI on the platform, but my duties quickly evolved to include Product Development (defining features and functions of the product), User Experience Design, User Interface, and overall Creative Direction (design and copywriting) for the brand beyond the platform.
From baseball and basketball to field hockey and fencing, the site had to accommodate all kinds of different stats. Plus, some kids play multiple sports each season. Keeping everything organized needed to be simple for the student and their supporters.
The design had to do a few different things. 1). It needed to differentiate RecruitTalk from their competition. 2) It needed to appeal to the student-athletes who were the primary users of the platform. 3). It needed to be intuitive to use as a diary of athletic and academic stats for student-athletes, their coaches, and their families. 4). It needed to be a helpful tool for college athletic recruiters to build a roster of potential recruits.
The athlete’s side was simple. Pick a sport, then pick a position, and fill in your stats after each game. If they played different positions, they could have a profile for each. Different sports? The same process was there, and it was even simpler when updating the academic side of their profile.
Recruiters needed filters to help them sort through thousands of prospects and an intuitive way to collaborate with their staff while collecting and ranking a list of potential in their roster.
